I'm going to start by saying, this is the hardest thing I have ever done. The amount of talent at Maple Ridge is thoroughly remarkable. I remember early on when we just started the program, we were begging for one or two people who could sing on key, and those people got the roles, no question. Now we are praying for people to not be able to sing on key because there are too many incredible and deserving students. It's a wonderful problem to have, and a problem that is going to make our show unbelievably amazing. I haven't slept hardly at all since Thursday and have changed this more times than I can count. Last year and the year before I was blown away by the auditions and the choices we had to make. This year put those to shame. I truly can not emphasize how impressed I am by the students in our program. I feel proud and indescribably blessed to get to work in a program that I love so dearly, with people and students that I love so dearly, that it causes so much stress and so many tears. It's a beautiful thing to find people and opportunities you are so passionate about, and I am as lucky as it gets to lead MRE Drama.
These decisions were not made lightly. I'm in the process of adding lines and solos for some of these characters just because I want to showcase more students. I'm also going to do a special song at the end to give extra solo opportunities. I added an advanced dance troupe, extra Sharpettes, and special baseball dancers. I truly did my best to give every student an opportunity to shine in this show.
If you did not get the role you were hoping for, it's ok to be sad, but also please try to be excited for what is to come regardless. This show will, without a doubt, one of the best if not the best MRE has ever put on.
Please remember to be kind. It is never ok to put anyone down for getting a part you wanted. It is not your decision or your right to judge anothers' talents. Congratulate people. Be proud of your friends. Most of all, be proud of yourselves. Everything you showed us this week was absolutely mindblowingly phenomenal.
I did adjust the calendar a little to allow for the added parts. The new calendar is attached to this as well.
I'm so proud of you all and I love you so much. I can't wait to get started and am so ready to blow everyone away with what I know you will be able to do.
